| CLIMATE AND CLOTHES |
Khakasia has a distinktly continental climate. July is one of its pleasant months.
The July temperatures in Khakaia range between +15 and +35oC. Rain can well be expected.
Dress will be informal throughout the Conference for all occasions.

| The Conference presentations will be in English and in Russian. Simultaneous interpretation will be provided. |
| INSURANCE |
| The Conference Secretariat and Organizers cannot accept liability for personal accidents
or loss of/or damage to private property of participants, students and
accompanying persons, either during or indirectly arising from the ICMM.
Participants should make their own arrangements with respect to health and travel insurance |
| TRAVEL TO RESPUBLIC OF KHAKASIA |
By train: Zhemchuzhny is 390 km (242 miles) south west of Krasnoyarsk and about 190 km (118 miles) north of Abakan. It is easily accessible by train (depart Krasnoyarsk railway station; service every 24 h; journey time 12 h).
By air: Krasnoyarsk and Abakan have airports that serve Moscow only. Foreign participants will be taken to Zhemchuzhny by bus from Krasnoyarsk (journey time 6 h).

| CURRENCY/BANKS |
| All prices and payments are in Russian rubls. Ruble is the unit of currency in Russia.
It consists of 100 kopeks. 29 rubles are equal to 1US$ (in June of 2000).
There are many exchange points in all parts of Krasnoyarsk, which will
change US$ and European currencies into rubles, and back. |

| Participants from most countries are required a visa to enter Russia.

| The Secretariat will send an official letter of invitation to the participants of the 8th International
Conference on Salt Lakes upon their request. This letter may be used to assist a participant in obtaining
a visa or travel assistance and does not constitute any commitment on the part of the organizers to
provide financial support or to agree to accept a paper. Requests should be addressed to the Secretariat. |
