The
8th International Conference on Salt Lakes organized by the
International Society for Salt Lake Research, the Institute of Biophysics SB
RAS, the Government and the Supreme Council of the Republic of Khakasia, the
Administration of the Krasnoyarskii Krai, the Committee for Natural Resources
in the Republic of Khakasia,
the Administration of the township of Zhemchuzhny the "Bereg" Federal
State Enterprise, the "Lake Shira SPA"
Corporation and the Research-Education Center "Yenisei" has been held at
the "Lake Shira" SPA
in the township of Zhemchuzhny in the Republic of Khakasia.
The
Conference was attended by specialists engaged in investigating and managing
salt lakes their biological resources and natural therapeutic resources -
researchers from Australia, Germany, The USA, the Netherlands, Belgium, Great
Britain, Russia and Ukraine (153 participants).
The
Conference POINTS OUT that:
-
the Republic of Khakasia possesses unique resources of world-wide significance:
salt lakes, natural therapeutic reserves, historical memorials, and various
landscape-climatic zones concentrated on rather a small area;
- the ecological state of salt lakes and natural therapeutic resources
situated in the Republic of Khakasia is currently quite good, but requires
particular attention to avoid its deterioration;
- the large resources of natural therapeutic reserves and biological resources
of salt lakes in the Republic of Khakasia are insufficiently used now and must
be further investigated.
The
Conference RECCOMENDS:
-
to the executive agencies of the Republic of Khakasia: to intensify the
research and monitoring of the state of salt lakes, natural therapeutic
reserves, and the related biological resources;
- to the organizations and enterprises interested in the utilization of
natural therapeutic reserves and biological resources of salt lakes: to
support financially investigations and monitoring of these resources, which
will facilitate their management based on scientific principles.
Taking
into consideration the abundance of the collected factual data on salt lakes
of the Republic of Khakasia and the adjacent districts of the Krasnoyarskii
Krai, the available natural therapeutic resources, biodiversity and the
uniqueness of natural landscapes and the availability of research and
production facilities experiences in this field,
the
Conference CONSIDERS IT EXPEDIENT
-
to establish in Khakasia and the adjacent districts of the Krasnoyarskii Krai
the South-Siberian Aqua-Geo-Ecological Testing ground of international
standing intended for further investigations of salt lakes, preparation of
recommendations for their efficient management, and dissemination of the
results among the persons and institutions concerned.
- to summarize the accomplishment in salt lake research on a sub site of the
official website of the International Society for Salt Lake Research and to
update it regularly.
The
Conference is extremely grateful to the organizing Committee for the
tremendous effort and for the efficient work that made it possible to realize
the program to the full and to discuss some unscheduled scientific problems.
