"SHIRA LAKE" RESORT
Highly
mineralized chloride-sulfate-magnesium-sodium water was therapeutically used by
nomadic tartar tribes as long ago as in the middle of the 18th
century.
The high public opinion formed by 1897 about medicinal properties of Shira lake
formed the grounds for to withdraw it from the ownership of nomadic tribes and
transferred under the control of state property of the Yenisseisk guberniya.
From that moment "Shira Lake" resort started its history as a state-owned
healing area. Among the resorts of Siberia "Shira Lake" is one of the oldest
and most popular.
Resort treatment at "Shira Lake" is intended for patients with gastrointestinal
diseases, locomotive apparatus problems, diseases of peripheral nervous system,
gynecological patients, inflammation of urinal-reproductive systems. In recent
years the medical staff of the resort have developed methods to treat glaucoma
and several forms of cutaneous diseases.
Owing to lack of permanent
sources of background contamination (the nearest industrial centers are 100-150
km from the area) the ecological situation around the resort is exceptionally
benign.
Resort of Republican level "Shira Lake" is 390 from Krasnoyarsk,
160 km from Abakan and 15 km from Shira station of East-Siberian railway. A
network of automobile roads with interurban bus service connects the resort with
administrative centers of Krasnoyarsk krai and Republic of Khakasia.
Peculiar climate of Kachinsky steppe covering the northern part of Minusinsk basin is
favorable for treatment and leisure.
